Göbekli Tepe and the Stone Hills: Two Days in Neolithic Şanlıurfa

Long before cities, writing or pottery, people in southeastern Anatolia were raising carved stone pillars in great circular enclosures. Göbekli Tepe, a UNESCO World Heritage property near Şanlıurfa, dates to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period, approximately 9600–8200 BCE, and its meaning is still being debated by archaeologists.

Day 1: Şanlıurfa and Göbekli Tepe. The journey opens at the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, where the region's Neolithic finds give context to what you are about to see. Then comes a guided visit to Göbekli Tepe's monumental enclosures and their carved T-shaped pillars. Back in the city, there is time to walk around Balıklıgöl and the old bazaar, where stories associated with Abraham are shared as local tradition.

Day 2: Karahantepe and Harran. The route continues into the wider Taş Tepeler, the "Stone Hills", to visit Karahantepe if visitor access is available on your date. Your guide links its evidence to Göbekli Tepe without treating every interpretation as settled. The day ends in Harran, known for its traditional conical-roofed houses, before returning to Şanlıurfa or an onward transfer.

This is a private, suggested itinerary rather than a fixed-departure package. The published price is 259 USD per person, and a personal proposal confirms access, guide language, transport, accommodation and entrance tickets for your dates.
